BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington city officials are crafting an ordinance regulating the use of ride-sharing service Uber.
Assistant City Manager Steve Rasmussen said the city wants to make sure drivers undergo background checks, vehicles are insured and inspected for safety.
“Those are the things that we’re working on to make sure that they’re handled the same and are treated fairly with the taxi drivers,” Rasmussen said. “I’m optimistic that we’ll be able to work out a suitable agreement on all those things to move forward with an ordinance for the city.”
Rasmussen said he’s working to put the proposal to a vote by the city council at its next scheduled meeting, but realistically, it might not be ready.
