Woman from Normal arrested on armed robbery charge

NORMAL – A woman from Normal faces armed robbery and other charges after she reportedly used a gun to rob another man.

According to court documents, Katie Welch, 26, was involved in an altercation with a man who came to an apartment on Orlando Avenue she was visiting early Friday morning.

The man who came to the apartment reportedly punched a man who lives there, took his gun and pointed it at his head. Welch reportedly left the home with the man who came to the house. They made off with the gun, the victim’s wallet, cash, cellphone and prescription drugs.

Welch was arrested by Normal Police on Friday. Prosecutors have charged her with armed robbery, a Class X felony, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Welch is being held in the McLean County Jail. Bond was set at $200,000.
