BLOOMINGTON – The City of Bloomington is bringing back the Heritage Awards.

The Bloomington Historic Preservation Commission is looking for submissions of public or private properties that have been improved somehow. City Planner Mark Woolard describes what should be included in the application.

“A description of the project would be one aspect,” Woolard said. “You know, what was done? Was it restoring a porch and roof and windows or maybe a lot of different projects.”

Before and after photos of the property should also be included.

Woolard says submissions will be accepted until July 2. Application forms can be found at the City of Bloomington’s website. <http://www.cityblm.org/index.aspx?page=254>

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
