SPRINGFIELD – State Sen. Jim Oberweis is renewing efforts to allow Sunday car sales.

Oberweis, R-Aurora, has introduced Senate Bill 1780 to repeal the prohibition, saying government shouldn't be used to prevent competition in industry.

Automobile dealerships have not been allowed to sell vehicles on Sundays in Illinois since 1983, but many dealerships openly opposed the measure when it was last introduced in 2013.

Another Oberweis bill, SB1706, would allow auto dealers to close on a different day of the week for religious worship purposes, thus keeping the dealership open six days a week.

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
