MACON – Starting next Monday, Illinoisans won't be able to apply for a Firearm Owners ID with a pen and paper.
Illinois State Police are doing away with mail-in applications and are placing FOID paperwork online. The change is designed to modernize what critics consider to be an antiquated and sometimes ineffective system.
Applicants for a concealed-carry permit or FOID card will no longer have to have a digital identification through the Department of Central Management Services. Instead, they'll have to register through the ISP website.
