Obituaries: Gillan

Vern Gillan, 63, of Normal, passed away at 7:20 p.m., Friday, February 13, 2015 at Heartland Healthcare in Normal, surrounded by his wife and two sons.

His funeral will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bloomington with Rev. Ric Schneider officiating.  Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m., Tuesday at the church.

Vern was born May 20, 1951 in Spring Valley, IL, the son of Earl and Rose Pinter Gillan.  He married Debra McNally on July 14, 1979 in Cherry, IL.  She survives in Normal.

He is also survived by two sons, Aaron and Brian Gillan, both of Normal; two brothers, Wesley and Roger Gillan and two sisters, Elaine Shevokas and Marge Corrigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

Vern graduated from Hall High School in Spring Valley and Illinois Valley Community College, Oglesby, IL.  He retired from Caterpillar in 2007 as a Senior System Analyst.

Vern was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington.  He had 10 wonderful years at their farm doing gardening, mowing and campfires with his children and friends.
