Bloomington Thunder fall short to Muskegon

Bloomington, IL – Finishing back to back games at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum, the Thunder could not top the Muskegon Lumberjacks and stop their unbeaten streak at nine games with a 3-1 loss. The Thunder fall to a tie for fifth with the Madison Capitols at 19-17-7 while the Lumberjacks move up closer to the first place spot in the Eastern Conference with a 26-13-3 record.

Despite 18 shots on net and two power play opportunities, the Thunder could not tally to start the game. The Lumberjacks opened the scoring at 15:00 on the power play as Mark Petaccio potted his 15th of the season. Pat Curry finished the period with four shots including some of the best chances for the Thunder offense. Michael Latorella (Ohio State) was 18 of 18 in his first start since January 19th against the Thunder.

The start the Thunder were looking for in the second would not come as planned. Tommy Marchin (Brown University) was able to score just 13 seconds into the period to make it 2-0. Later the Jacks would get their third tally and second on the power play in the game from Trevor Hamilton (Penn State University) who finished the game with a goal and an assist. Leading scorer Griffen Molino (Western Michigan University) earned the playmaker with three assists to lead the Jacks in points on the night.

Bloomington opened up the comeback with a power play goal at the end of the second period. Curry cashed in at 18:56 on the power play. The Schaumburg, IL native tallied his sixth of the season and defenseman Joey Maguire notched his first point in his USHL debut. However the Thunder could not crack could not beat Latorella again in the game

A scoreless third ended with the Thunder outshooting the Jacks 36-28 but unsuccessful winning the special teams battle. Bloomington finished the night 1-7 on the power play and 2-4 on the penalty kill.

Hayden Lavigne (University of Michigan) falls for just the second time with the Thunder and halts his win streak at six. Latorella makes it five in a row with the win making 35 saves in four of those five starts.
