John Deere announces more layoffs

MOLINE – Deere & Company will lay off workers indefinitely at five locations that build agricultural equipment beginning next month.

More than 900 employees at Illinois and Iowa facilities are affected, including 45 employees at Harvester Works in East Moline. Other facilities seeing layoffs include three locations in Waterloo, Ia. and the Des Moines Works in Ankeny, Ia. Another 500 employees at Deere’s Seeding and Cylinder facility in Moline will go on an extended inventory shutdown, which is expected to last through late summer.

The layoffs will begin in early February, with others effective later in March. Meanwhile, the company has added more than 200 new jobs at construction and forestry factories in Iowa.
