NORMAL – U.S. News and World Report has named Illinois State's online nursing program to its list of the best online nursing programs.

Mennonite College of Nursing Acting Dean H. Catherine Miller says the Nursing Systems Administration Program is for registered nurses seeking a master degree.

"With the online program, they're able to fit this education in with their work schedules," Miller said. "Most of these students are also holding full-time jobs while completing their semester in Nursing Systems Administration."

The program was ranked No. 93 on the list and is the only public Illinois university to be ranked. Schools were ranked in five general categories; including student engagement, faculty credentials and training, peer reputation, student services and technology, and admissions selectivity. Other considerations included graduation rate, class size, tenured faculty and student debt.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
