Sign up is underway for this year's 4-H Learn and Fun Day at Pontiac Junior High School.

BLOOMINGTON – Although one 4-H enrollment deadline has passed, there is still time for new 4-H members to sign up for the program.
“It was kind of busy here Jan. 5 because that was the deadline for our returning 4-H members and we’re still waiting to find out what our re-enrollment is, but I just want to emphasize that anyone who hasn’t signed up for 4-H before, they still have until Apr. 15 to sign up then they can enter at the fair,” said Carolyn Hansen, 4-H Youth Development Educator with the University of Illinois Extension in McLean County.
Hansen said the local 4-H unit is also offering Learn and Fun Day again this year on Feb. 14 at the Pontiac Junior High School. There are a number of project areas for young people to explore.
“Here’s a new one – we haven’t had deer hunting safety before, but that’s a new one. We have electricity, hands-on entomology, make your own paper, rabbits, origami, landscaping, guardian bears… Ukranian pysanky eggs, geocaching, rocketry, cake decorating, disaster preparedness pillowcase project, farm safety, so we’ve got a lot of stuff,” said Hansen.
The cost for the program is $10 for 4-H members and $15 for non-members, which includes lunch. Check in that day is at 8:15 a.m. and things will wrap up around 2:30 p.m. For more information or to register, contact your local University of Illinois Extension office or visit the University of Illinois Extension website for the Livingston, McLean and Woodford County unit.
