HUDSON – A woman from Hudson has been targeted by scammers claiming to be from the IRS.
Hudson Police Chief Dale Sparks said the woman did the right thing and went to police to report the incident, instead of just giving the scam artist her money.
"Don't worry about the arrest. Either call your tax person or call your local police and verify those phone numbers," Sparks said. "IRS is never going to call you and tell you you have a warrant out for your arrest, that's just not how they operate."
Sparks said the woman called the scammer back, cried over the phone and told the scam artist that she didn't have the money. Eventually, the scammer just admitted to her that it was a scam.
Sparks said once you give a scam artist your money, it's almost impossible for authorities to retrieve it.
