Joseph Trempel

Joseph G. Trempel Sr., 90, of Bloomington, died at 5:55 a.m. Jan. 6 at his home.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal, with Monsignor Eric S. Powell officiating.  Visitation will be for one hour prior to services at the church.

Entombment will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the mausoleum at the Catholic Cemetery of Ft. Wayne, Indiana.  The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the cemetery chapel.  Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Matthew 25 Clinic, 413 E. Jefferson Blvd., Ft. Wayne, Ind. 46802, Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill, DePaul Center, 144 DePaul Center Rd., Greensburg, Pa. 15601 or Sisters of Providence of St. Mary of the Woods, where his longtime friend Sister Joseph serves as the director of Providence Food Pantry in West Terre Haute.  Donations to the Sisters of Providence can be sent to their Mission Advancement, 1 Sisters of Providence Rd., Saint-Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind. 47876.

He was born January 4, 1925 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, the son of Jacob J. and Esther A. Tholen Trempel.  He married Dolores M. Rieger on October 6, 1945 in Ft. Wayne.  She preceded him in death on September 8, 2012.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda (Tom) Hubbard of Bloomington and Pamela Cox (Dennis) Mills of Normal; a son, Joe (Peggy) Trempel of Bloomington; seven grandchildren, D.J. (Lindsey) Pequignot, Eric (Sarah) Pequignot, Tom Hubbard, Chris Hubbard, Danielle (Mike) Wallin, Joseph (Curran Fine) Cox and Tiffany (Joe) Wilcox; ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a daughter, Susan Pequignot.

Joe served with the 35th Division in the 134th Infantry in the U.S. Army during WWII.  He retired as regional sales manager from Eckrich Meats in 1985 after 38 years of employment.  He and Dolores cherished the forty years they spent in Scottsdale, Arizona.  Joe enjoyed golf, walking and travel, especially trips to Las Vegas.  He was an avid Notre Dame fan.

The Trempel family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Patrick Gomez and the staff at Illinois Cancer Care as well as to the nurses and staff at OSF Hospice.
