BLOOMINGTON – Illinois will have a Republican in the governor's mansion this year for the first time in 12 years.
State Sen. Jason Barickman (R-Bloomington) said he's optimistic Republicans will be able to work with Democrats in 2015.
"Now with a divided government, I think you're going to see, on vote after vote, efforts where both Republicans and Democrats both say 'hey, they gave a little bit, we gave a little bit, and the end result is all something we can all be generally happy with,'" Barickman said.
Democrats still hold veto-proof majorities in both the House and Senate. Gov.-elect Bruce Rauner takes office Jan. 12.
