CEDAR RAPIDS – Iowa – The Bloomington Thunder continued on their road stand and took the trip to Cedar Rapids to square off with the RoughRiders in a game that ended in a 4-3 overtime loss.
The Thunder had the lead in the game on two separate occasions and even killed off a 5-on-3 in the game earning a point on the night.
After two games head-to-head and no first period goals, each team came out firing and Bloomington would take the early lead. Logan Lambdin grabbed the early goal for the Thunder just 1:52 into the period on a second effort shot. Then at the 10:33 shot the Thunder would score yet again. Tarek Baker (University of Minnesota) would take the puck into the zone and drop it for Vince Pedrie (Quinnipiac University) who jumped up in the play and put it by Ben Blacker (Western Michigan University) to take a 2-0 lead. However just 22 seconds later the RoughRiders would bring themselves within one and the high powered offense tallied another 1:24 later to tie the game at two.
Bloomington came out in the second period and capitalized with another goal under 1:30 seconds into the period. Jack Jenkins picked up the tally for the Thunder to make it 3-2 and give himself six goals on the season. Logan Halladay (University of Minnesota) turned aside a two period total of 14 shots, while the Thunder recorded a two period total of 15 shots onto Blacker.
The RoughRiders would tie it up in the third period grabbing a goal at 6:45 when a loose puck found the back of the net but the Thunder battled back. With only three penalties in the game, the Thunder would have to defend a 5-on-3 penalty kill to keep the game tied and eventually force overtime.
The Thunder tallied three shots in the extra frame but the game winner came from Cal Burke (University of Notre Dame) on a backdoor feed as Bloomington earned their second point in three games.
The Thunder killed off all three Rider power plays in the game and move to 11-13-5 on the season. They host Sioux City next weekend at home to begin a four game home stand.
