121,000 Illinoisans select heal plans in first month of current ACA sign-up period

By Joe Ragusa

CHICAGO – A report says more than 121,000 Illinoisans selected health plans during the first month of the current sign-up period under President Barack Obama's health care law.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released the data Tuesday. It's the first indication of how enrollment is going in Illinois where residents are relying on the federal HealthCare.gov website for the second year.

About 54 percent of the Illinois enrollees are new customers. The rest bought health plans last year and have actively re-enrolled. The report doesn't include those being automatically re-enrolled.

About 80 percent of the Illinois enrollees qualify for financial assistance.

Get Covered Illinois officials say they've made an aggressive start to the second enrollment season with more than 500 enrollment events and extended enrollment hours across the state.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
