BLOOMINGTON – State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) has a few things he's looking forward to in 2015.

Brady believed Illinois will get a breath of fresh air when Gov.-elect Bruce Rauner takes over.

"There are serious challenges though that we face that we have to do so," said Brady. "I think we're going to do so in a very progressive way for the people of Illinois."

Brady said the state has suffered too long from deficits, debt, and loss of jobs. He thought 2015 will be the year to turn the corner on that.

"I'm looking forward to improving our tax policy so that we have the revenue we need to meet the demands of the people of Illinois," said Brady. "But also we do so in such a way that enhances and encourages job growth and development.

"We're going the discipline to balance our budgets and live within our means. I think with a new administration entering we're going to be able to do that."

Brady added it's time to start marketing the good things Illinois has to offer.

"That is the people of Illinois, the great resources of this state, the great geographical presence, the agricultural based economy, as well as finance and insurance, our university system," Brady said.

Brady said we often look at the negatives and fail to realize the positives.

If there had been a parade, this year’s Labor Day theme was to be “150 years of struggle: your right to vote.” …

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
