BLOOMINGTON – How will the $750,000 state grant facilitated by State Senator Bill Brady will be spent?  That's anyone's guess.  A news release from State Senator Bill Brady this week says the money is for projects in the 44th district.  Renner has said the money was earmarked for Bloomington.

"The State of Illinois might actually take projects like this back," says Renner. "They might say if you haven't used this money in five years, we're going to take this back and try to balance our budget."

The spending of that money was before the Bloomington City Council this month.  They shot down a proposal to spend the state grant on land near McGraw park which would have been leased to Bloomington Central Catholic High School for a practice football field. Some of the suggestions being considered include having the money for a Connect Transit project, a Chestnut Health System project, and projects in Delavan.  Renner says it's even possible the state could take the money back.  A group has been formed to make a recommendation to Brady.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
