Richard Sikora

Richard T. Sikora, 86, of Normal, died at 2:20 a.m. on Dec. 26 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal, where visitation will be one hour prior to services.  Monsignor Eric S. Powell will officiate.  Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal, following services.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Epiphany Catholic Church, 1000 E. He was born at home on May 3, 1928 in Chicago, the son of Teofil and Rose Dobek Sikora.  He married Phyllis S. Smigielski on June 25, 1950 in Joliet.  She preceded him in death on November 5, 2008.

Surviving are a son, Dr. Richard L. (Cathy) Sikora of Bloomington; two daughters, Christine (Richard) Ito of Seattle, WA and Cathleen (Edward) Winkofsky of Dayton, OH; 12 grandchildren, Greg Sikora, Jeff (Sumudu) Sikora, Dr. Chris (Andrea) Sikora,  Ann Sikora, Mary (Paul) Rayburn, Nathan Sikora and JP Sikora, David (Erin) Ito and Cathleen Ito and Ed (Holly) Winkofsky, Eric Winkofsky and Evan Winkofsky.  Also surviving are five great-grandchildren.

Richard worked for Western Electric which later became Lucent Technologies for 45 years.  He was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal.

 

John Staszak-Smith

John Raymond Staszak-Smith, 60, Fairbury, died at 4:45 p.m. Dec. 23 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairbury with Pastor Tom Krieger officiating.  Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. Monday at the church.  The family suggests memorials be given to the Trinity Lutheran Church youth group, Fairbury.

Mr. Smith was born April 15, 1954 in Chicago the son of Raymond and Frances Matuzas Staszak.  In 1983 he met Bonnie Smith and they were married on August 19, 1989 in Oak Lawn.  She survives in Fairbury.

Other survivors include 3 sons, John Staszak Jr., Canon City, Colo.; Bradley Joseph and Daniel James Smith, both of Fairbury; 1 daughter, Christina Payne, Colorado Springs, Colo.; 3 grandchildren and 1 sister, Lisa Wegrzyn, Plainfield.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Smith had been employed as a mechanic for 22 years and was a stay at home dad after the birth of his son, Bradley.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairbury, the Boy Scouts of America and the NRA.
