A disputed state contract given to Gov. Pat Quinn's former
campaign manager has more job protections than a predecessor's contract.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports (http://bit.ly/1x4Ayux ) that Lou Bertuca's
contract to run the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority guarantees he will be
paid in full for the two-year position even if he is fired. It pays $160,000
annually.
The contract requires a unanimous vote by the authority board to fire him.
His predecessor's contract required only a majority vote and would have paid
only a two-month severance.
Quinn's office did not respond to a request for comment.
The agency manages U.S. Cellular Field and floated bonds to renovate Soldier
Field.
Bertuca was appointed earlier this month in a divided vote. Republican
Gov.-elect Bruce Rauner (ROW'-nur) says he hopes to reverse the hiring.
