BLOOMINGTON – It's a day of remembrance for former State Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka.
She will be laid to rest today in Countryside. Republican State Senator Bill Brady said politics will be put on hold, but there are issues to deal with in the coming days. He said Republican Governor Elect Bruce Rauner should make the decision of who holds the Comptroller's office for the next four years.
"Some of the Democrats don't want to see that happen," said Brady. "They want to see a special election. I'm sure that's to a large degree because it's going to be a Republican appointed for those four years, not a Democrat."
Democratic Attorney General Lisa Madigan issued a report that says an election should take place in 2016.
