BLOOMINGTON – The City of Bloomington Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts department is looking for entries in a Christmas House Decorating Contest.

Program Manager Adam Hucek said you can either nominate your own house or someone else's in either Bloomington or Normal.

"We're just looking for houses that are decorated in some way, whether it's themes, or just general holiday lights, that really have their house looking more festive for the year," said Hucek.

Entries will be judged in three categories: Best Overall Light Display, Most Creative Theme and People's Choice Award. The latter will be determined by voters who like the organization's Facebook page.

Submissions can be sent to Hucek by emailing [email protected] or sent to the Bloomington Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts facebook page through Dec. 17.

Joe Ragusa can be reached at [email protected].

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
