Bloomington man convicted for second time on child abduction charges

By Adam Studzinski

BLOOMINGTON – A retrial of a man convicted of attempted child abduction in 2011 ended with the same guilty verdict.

Mike Williams, of Bloomington, had been convicted by a McLean County jury of attempting to lure a then-14-year-old boy into his car as the boy walked to school in Bloomington in December 2010.

However, the 4th District Appellate Court overturned the conviction in 2013, saying the judge in the original trial distributed harmful material to the jury.

Williams has served the required term of his five year sentence from the first conviction.  Prosecutors say they will not seek additional prison time when Williams is sentenced in February.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
