President Donald Trump said it was “a great honor” to speak Tuesday at the United Nations, where “faulty equipment” likely made his speech “more interesting.”
Trump took to social media shortly after finishing his speech before the U.N. General Assembly.
“It was a great honor to speak before the United Nations. I believe the speech was very well received,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
Early in his speech, Trump cited that the teleprompter was not working.
“I don’t mind making this speech without a teleprompter because the teleprompter is not working,” the president told the U.N. audience.
“I feel very happy to be up here with you, nevertheless. And that way you speak more from the heart. I can only say that whoever is operating this teleprompter is in big trouble.”
Later in his speech, Trump mentioned that on his way up to the General Assembly, the U.N. escalator “stopped right in the middle.”
“If the first lady [Melania Trump] wasn’t in great shape, she would have fallen,” he told the audience. “But she’s in great shape. We’re both in good shape. We both stood. [laughter] And then a teleprompter — that didn’t work. … These are the two things I got from the United Nations: a bad escalator and a bad teleprompter.”
In his Truth Social post, Trump said teleprompter and escalator issues “probably made the speech more interesting than it would have been otherwise.”
Trump used the speech to discuss global issues that included war and immigration. He called on world leaders to demand that Hamas release its hostages and said Russian President Vladimir Putin was “letting down his country and people, too” by continuing the war in Ukraine.
Trump’s full post read, “It was a great honor to speak before the United Nations. I believe the speech was very well received. It focused very much on energy and migration/immigration. I have been talking about this for a long period of time and this Forum, was the absolute best from the standpoint of making these two important statements. I hope everybody gets to watch it!”
“The teleprompter was broken and the escalator came to a sudden halt as we were riding up to the podium, but both of those events probably made the speech more interesting than it would have been otherwise. It is always an honor to speak at the United Nations, even if, their equipment is somewhat faulty. Make America great again!” he added.
