PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A Bartonville man was indicted Tuesday for allegedly seriously injuring his own infant child.
Gabriel King, 24, faces the single count of aggravated battery against a child in connection with the June 1 incident to the 2-month-old infant. That led to bleeding in his brain, bone fractures and bruises over his body.
If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison. Probation is not an option.
Bartonville police learned of the incident when a caseworker with the state’s Department of Children and Family Services reported suspected child abuse.
Later that day, King allegedly called the mother to say the baby was crying uncontrollably and was inconsolable. The mother later noticed the bruising when changing diapers and took him to the hospital.
King was charged with aggravated battery to a child on June 17, and was ordered to remain held in custody until the end of his trial.
He is expected to appear in court for his arraignment on July 10.
