EAST PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Two officers at the Tazewell County Jail were injured after an inmate “charged” at them, officials said.
The officers were responding Sunday afternoon to the inmate’s cell on a report of him tearing up his mattress and banging on his door, said Tazewell County Chief Deputy Tim Gillespie.
When the officers tried to stop him, the male inmate aggressively charged at the officers when they opened his cell door. It took three officers and a Taser to subdue him, the chief deputy said.
One officer had a dislocated shoulder. The other received a hand injury, Gillespie said.
The inmate and the officers were taken to a local hospital for treatment, he said. All three have been released. The inmate is back in custody at the jail.
Gillispie said the inmate has been charged with aggravated battery for the incident. It wasn’t immediately clear what charges he was being held on initially at the jail.
