LEROY, Ill. (WMBD) — The LeRoy Police Department received a big grant for camera equipment on Monday.
LeRoy Police Chief Jason Williamson announced that the department’s Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board FY26 Law Enforcement Camera Grant application was approved during the town council meeting on Monday, according to a police department Facebook post.
The grant will provide $116,898.32 for Axon body cameras, squad car cameras and pay for the storage of video through a contract with Axon.
The department’s contract with Axon will run through 2030.
LeRoy officers have worn body cameras since 2014 and have been required by law since January 2025.
