BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — The superintendent of District 87 schools in Bloomington has been named a Superintendent of Distinction by the Illinois Association of School Administrators.
David Mauser was awarded this honor from his colleagues, who work with him from other school districts, giving him the title of winner from the Cornbelt region. He said he is honored to receive it.
“It’s something when you’re nominated by your peers. They have other superintendents that I work with, and nominating me is quite an honor. I think it speaks to what we’re trying to do here in District 87. We’re very proud of what our teachers and our staff, our board, and our community are doing,” said Mouser.
Mouser doesn’t take all the credit. He instead sees this as a win for his community.
“This isn’t about me. This is about our district and what we’re doing here in Bloomington, District 87. I mean, we have we’ve raised expectations,” he said. “We’ve created what I believe is a culture where people want to be where our staff thrives and can take calculated risks and be supported in that process. I just think it’s a celebration for all of us.”
The award serves to recognize leaders in education who have a dedication to students’ success and to their community.
“It means a lot to me because I recognize that I was nominated from within, from within that group. So certainly I’m proud of that. I’m proud of the work that we’re doing here in District 87. But I’m also proud to have the opportunity to be considered a leader amongst my peers,” he said.
