NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Two state championships in two months at University High School.
In October, the boys golf team won a class 2A state title. Saturday night, the volleyball team joined the party by winning the class 3A state championship.
The Pioneers have had a great volleyball program for years but this is their first title in 25 seasons.
“This is a huge deal for U-High volleyball,” said head coach Ratasha Thompson. “I’m so proud of these girls and so honored to have experienced this with them.”
U-High beat Nazareth Academy in two sets to win the title. The Pioneers finished the season on a 30-match win streak.
“Having experienced this with your friends, this moment right here is something we can cherish the rest of our lives,” ‘said senior Madi Funk. “I know I will. And I know everyone else here will too.”
