BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — A man is dead after being struck Wednesday night by a small SUV on Veterans Parkway.
The collisions occurred at about 7:10 p.m. on Veterans Parkway in between Oakland Avenue and East Lincoln Street. It occurred in the roadway, and there is no crosswalk in that area, said Bryce Janssen, a spokesman for the Bloomington Police Department.
The nearest crosswalk is at Lincoln, he said.
When officers arrived, they began to render aid until the Bloomington Fire Department arrived. The victim was taken to OSF Healthcare St. Joseph Medical Center, where he later died.
The driver of the SUV remained on scene and cooperated with police for their investigation, Janssen said. Due to the severity of the incident, the McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team was requested to assist with the investigation.
An autopsy is pending, and his identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
