BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — Home Sweet Home Ministries is asking for the community’s help in their “Big Give” event.
The not-for-profit partners with Midwest Food Bank to create Thanksgiving meal boxes for families in need.
They posted on Facebook saying they’re in need of some more turkeys for the boxes. Turkeys can be bought and then taken directly to the food bank. You can purchase a turkey card at Hyvee.
CEO Matt Burgess said they also need volunteers to help hand out their Thanksgiving Day meal, which marks Home Sweet Home’s 108th year.
“This is Home Sweet Home Ministry’s 108th anniversary on Thanksgiving Day. So we were founded on Thanksgiving Day in 1917 and it’s just an honor for us to still be serving the community for as long as we have,” Burgess said.
He also said they are thankful for the continuous generosity in these trying times.
“We see the generosity of our community. Our neighbors from across central Illinois continue to support us through donations of in-kind donations of food, but also donations of their finances and of their time,” Burgess said.
“And so we’re really appreciative that we’ve not seen any kind of drop off in giving to support the work that Home Sweet Home Ministries does.”
They’re also still accepting any non-perishable foods for the boxes to help feed as many people as possible.
