BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — The Salvation Army of McLean County announced that it will be opening its Emergency Winter Shelter on Monday.
The shelter will offer critical support to those experiencing homelessness through the winter months, said Deborah Cole, a Salvation Army spokesperson.
This is a seasonal expansion to the existing shelter program, and provides several services, including hot meals, shower and laundry facilities, individual case management and support from community partners.
“This shelter is more than a warm bed—it’s a lifeline,” said Major Dan Leisher. “We’re deeply grateful to our generous donors whose support makes this expansion possible. The Emergency Winter Shelter is only possible because of the generosity of donors like you. Your gift can provide warmth, safety, and hope to community members in need. Their compassion ensures that our neighbors in need have a safe place to turn this winter.”
Last year, the winter shelter provided 154 individuals with 2,876 overnight stays. It will remain open through mid-March.
Those interested can donate to support the shelter here.
