President Donald Trump announced this week that the halting of a massive offshore wind farm project off the New Jersey coast would not be reversed. Meghan Lapp, board member for Protect Our Coast NJ, told Newsmax on Tuesday that she is “ecstatic” over the president’s executive action on wind turbines in the Garden State.
“Obviously, we’re ecstatic about that,” Lapp said during an appearance on “National Report.” “I hope that he is able to follow through and make that halt permanent. And I think it’s important that people realize that there is ongoing construction on the rest of the East Coast.
“There are three projects under construction off the coast of New England. One is under construction off the coast of New York and New Jersey, and one is off of Virginia. And there are currently also over 25 leases that are still active off the East Coast.”
Lapp, whose organization seeks to prevent industrial build up along America’s coasts, is optimistic that Trump’s efforts won’t end with his administration.
“And I’m really hoping that as President, Trump halts offshore wind construction off of New Jersey, that he halts all these other projects as well, and revokes those leases to ensure that the East Coast halt will be permanent,” she added.
