BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — The McLean County Chamber of Commerce put on its fall job fair, which brought in 350 prospective employees to learn about 50 different employers.
“We’re here today for the Fall Job Fair, which is hosted by the McLean County Chamber of Commerce. This one for the fall is sponsored by Ferrero. We have Ferrero on site, as well as a whole lot of other really great employers in the area,” said Shelly Purchis, manager of workforce development for the McLean County Chamber of Commerce.
The fair was held at the Bloomington YMCA and lasted from 11 to 1:30 p.m. The fair aimed to connect potential employees with employers, helping the talent pool in Bloomington-Normal find the place they want to be.
“Hopefully, we can kind of put some of those two together because we know we’ve got great jobs open at all of these employers that are members of the chamber. We know we’ve got some great talent that is out in Bloomington-Normal as well, we hope we can get them positioned to do some great jobs,” Purchis said.
Other services like resume reviews and sign-ups for Heartland Community College’s central workplace skills program, to teach soft skills needed for workplaces.
“We also have Hartland Community College here. That’s talking about their Central workplace skills program. So that is something that’s really good that kind of helps develop some of those standards, what we sometimes call soft skills, like dependability and showing up on time and things like that,” she said.
