BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — Two teens have been arrested on alleged weapons charges after shots were fired Saturday morning.
The two 13-year-olds, whose names were not released as they are minors, were arrested on the following charges, according to department spokesman Bryce Janssen:
- Reckless discharge of a firearm
- Aggravated unlawful use of a weapon
- Resisting a peace officer
- Possession of a firearm without a FOID
Officers with the Bloomington Police Department were on patrol at 2:30 a.m. when they heard shots being fired and immediately began to search for victims and people of interest, Janssen said.
During the search, an officer allegedly saw several people in an alley near the 1000 block of North Prairie Street. One of them was allegedly seen pointing a gun in the air and firing another shot, he said.
When they saw the squad car, they took off running, and several officers began to chase after them before arresting two people, Janssen said.
While searching the teens, officers allegedly found a concealed loaded handgun on one of the teens.
