DAVENPORT, Iowa (WCIA/WMBD-TV) — As the fallout continues in Decatur over the resignation of City Manager Tim Gleason, another city has announced it has hired him for a position in its government.
WCIA’s sister station, WHBF in the Quad Cities, reported that the City of Davenport, Iowa, announced its hiring of Gleason as its Interim City Administrator. He will serve in this capacity for six months starting in November, but Gleason has expressed interest in taking the position permanently.
“I am excited to join this organization, if only on an interim basis, to make Davenport the best community possible for all,” Gleason said in a statement. “I appreciate the history of the city but am even more excited about the future and look forward to working with the Mayor, City Council and staff on the challenges ahead.”
Gleason’s arrival in Davenport and his looming departure from Decatur follow his resignation earlier this month. In his resignation letter, obtained by WCIA through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, Gleason said “ongoing actions” by City Council Member David Horn were the reason for his departure from the city government.
Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe said points of contention between Gleason and other city administrators included “excessive requests” made by Horn to Gleason and Gleason’s residency outside the city limits. Horn did not comment on the accusations against him when contacted by WCIA.
Gleason will continue working as City Manager through October, when he concludes his most recent stint in the position. Gleason previously served as City Manager from 2015 to 2018, worked as City Manager in Bloomington from 2018 to 2024 and returned to Decatur last year.
The City of Decatur said upon its announcement of Gleason’s resignation that it was starting the process of appointing an interim city manager before beginning the search for someone to fill the position permanently.
