Many members of Congress are “really disturbed” by the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., told Newsmax on Thursday.
“I am, too,” Kelly told “The Record With Greta Van Susteren.”
Kirk, the CEO and co-founder of the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA, was fatally shot Wednesday at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
“As a country, we’ve got to figure out how to have political debates without vilifying the other side, without inciting people to violence,” Kelly said, adding that all members of Congress need to reevaluate their talking points because words and rhetoric matter.
“All of us need to understand that our words carry a lot of weight. People listen to what we say, and we should be very thoughtful,” he said.
“I think everybody has a line, and some people often march right across it.”
