NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — The Children’s Discovery Museum announced that a McLean County native will be taking over as its director of education next month.
Katie Keller will take the role starting on Sept. 2, a museum spokesperson said. The job’s responsibilities include developing curriculum, recruiting educators and providing an educator’s perspective to exhibit design.
“I’ve approached my work believing that learning should first and foremost be fun,” Keller said. “When participants are having fun in an educational environment, it is a transformational experience that has the power to remain with them. These unforgettable moments are what the Children’s Discovery Museum is all about.”
Keller is a McLean County native and grew up attending Unit 5 schools. She previously worked as an interpreter and environmental educator with the National Park Service.
“The Museum is excited to welcome Katie to this role on our team,” Beth Whisman, executive director of the Children’s Discovery Museum, said. “We believe she will be a great fit and a wonderful addition to our pool of experience and knowledge of informal education and the power of play.”
As part of her new role, she will also work to support programs for public schools, homeschool and special needs programs.
