NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — A new partnership will give veteran students at Heartland Community College a chance to learn more about the arts.
Heartland will be teaming up with the non-profit CreatiVets to offer a free art course for student veterans, college spokesman Steve Fast said.
The course, CreatiVets Intro to Veteran Art, will be offered during the fall 2025 semester. The tuition for the course will be paid for by the CreatiVets, which helps provide art, music and writing programs for combat veterans with post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injuries.
Fast said CreatiVets Executive Director Richard Casper is a Heartland Alumni, a U.S. Marine Veteran and a Purple Heart recipient. Casper was also recognized with the Illinois Community College Trustees Association Distinguished Alumni Award in 2021.
Veterans interested in learning more about the program can call the Veterans Center Staff at 309-268-8153.
