LOGAN COUNTY, Ill. (WMBD) — A former prosecutor in McLean County will trade lectern for a judge’s robe and gavel, the 11th Judicial Circuit announced Tuesday.
Emily J. Young, an assistant state’s attorney since 2016, was appointed by the circuit judges and will primarily sit in Logan County, said Chief Judge J. Casey Costigan.

“We are pleased to welcome Ms. Young to the bench. She is a highly capable attorney with a strong commitment to fairness and the judicial temperament our courts require,” he said. “I am confident that Judge Young will serve the people of the 11th Judicial Circuit with integrity, impartiality and a dedication to the rule of law.
“The people of the 11th Circuit will be well-served by her presence on the bench,” Costigan added.
The circuit includes Ford, Livingston, Logan, McLean and Woodford counties.
While a prosecutor, Young saw many cases from traffic to “serious felony cases,” said Court Administrator William Scanlon.
Young earned degrees from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and the University of Illinois College of Law. While in law school, she made the school’s Law Trial team.
She is also a certified instructor at the Macon County Law Enforcement Training Center, and she is a former adjunct instructor at the University of Illinois College of Law, where she taught legal writing and legal research, he said.
Young was also the coordinator of the McLean County Coordinated Community Response Team, which focuses on domestic violence and CHELP that focuses on elder and disabled adult abuse, said Scanlon.
“I am truly honored to have been chosen by the circuit judges of the 11th Judicial Circuit. I am eager to serve the residents of Logan County in this capacity, and I am grateful for this opportunity,” Young said.
