Bloomington, Ill. (WMBD)– Where do you see yourself in 25 years? The Bloomington Public Library will discover its answer in 2050.
On Aug. 1, the Bloomington Public Library (BPL) will cement a new Time Capsule and wants the community’s involvement with suggestions of what should be included in the new Time Capsule.
BPL has a form on its website for its patrons to submit if they want to add input. The last day to submit responses is on July 28, the last day of their Summer Reading Program.
Rhonda Massie, marketing manager of the Bloomington Public Library, said they are in the process of getting the capsule put together, but still need more items.
“We put the dimensions on our website of how big the box is,” Massie said. “Once we get all the suggestions, we will see what we can find.”
The new Time Capsule already has a Lego replica of the Bloomington Public Library, Good Night Moon themed stamps, a magazine the library was featured in, coloring books, and more.
The Bloomington Public Library (BPL) began its course to serve the community in 1857. In the following years, they added more buildings and created the Library on Wheels service that grants easy access to community members.
The Bloomington Public Library cemented a Time Capsule in 1977 and revealed it in 2022.
“I think it’s going to be fun if you’re still around in 25 years to see what was in it,” Massie said. “I had a great time opening the one from 1977 and I was born in 1977, but it was a good time.”
The new Time Capsule will be revealed in 2050 for the next generation.
