PERIA, Illinois (WMBD) – Normal Community graduate and minor-league pitcher in the St. Louis Cardinals franchise Mason Burns was officially promoted to the High-A Peoria Chiefs, according to an announcement Tuesday morning from the club.
Burns was drafted by the Cardinals last summer in the 14th round after playing college ball at Western Kentucky. He was born in Peoria in April 2002 and graduated from Normal Community High School in 2020. According to the release, he will wear the number 21.
After being drafted in 2024, he was assigned at the beginning of the 2025 season to the Low-A club Palm Beach Cardinals in Florida.
Burns made 21 relief appearances for Palm Beach this season, stringing together a 2-0 record and a 3.49 ERA. He has also recorded three saves.
In 28.1 innings, Burns has recorded 43 strikeouts to 19 walks while holding his opponents to a .202 batting average.
The Chiefs open a three-game home series Tuesday night against the South Bend Cubs. Its unclear from the release if Burns will make an appearance in the game.
