BLOOMINGTON, Ill (WMBD) — Bloomington police are investigating after receiving a report of several shots fired early Wednesday morning.

Bryce Janssen, a spokesman for the Bloomington Police Department, said officers were called to the 2300 block of Rainbow Avenue at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday after several callers said they heard gunshots in the area.

When officers arrived, they found evidence that someone had fired a gun. Janssen declined to comment on what that evidence was or state how many shots were fired. He said only that “multiple” shots were fired

According to Janssen, no injuries or property damage have been reported at this time.

“The BPD detectives are working diligently to address this act of violence in that neighborhood. Our community reminds us frequently, they will not tolerate gun violence in this city,” said Police Chief Jamal Simington. “I urge those who have information about the shooting and offender to call us or use Tip 411 to report it anonymously.”

Police say the circumstances behind this incident are still pending investigation. Anyone with information are urged to contact Detective Logan Fosdick at (309) 434-2494 or [email protected].

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
