Two men sentenced in separate sexual assault cases

NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — Two men were sentenced this month to several years in prison for sexual assault in separate cases.

Carlos Cregan, 37, of Normal was sentenced May 9 to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty in McLean County Circuit Court to charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and criminal sexual assault, according to online court records.

On Aug. 26, 2022, Normal Police were notified of a reported criminal sexual assault incident. Officers began their investigation and identified Cregan as a witness. He was arrested in March 2023 and has been in custody since.

The department declined to provide more information on the facts of the case.

In separate case, Steve Acosta, 24, of Bloomington pleaded guilty and was sentenced May 8 to seven years in prison on the charge of aggravated criminal sexual assault. related to an incident in June 2023.

According to the Normal Police Department, officers were notified of a reported sexual assault and began their investigation. Acosta was arrested in July 2024 and has been in custody since.

As with the other case, the department declined to provide more information on the facts of the case.
