BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington City Council is signing off on over a million-dollar makeover for the city’s water treatment plant.
“Over the years, there have been some worn parts and equipment related to the water treatment plant,” Bloomington Deputy City Manager Billy Tyus said. “But also, design standards have changed versus what they were 10-20 years ago. And so those were improvements to the system that distributes chlorine and other related chemicals related to the purifying of our water.”
According to Tyus, there is no problem with the city’s water plant or water, but upgrades were needed for the future.
“There needed to upgrade to the system that upgrades how those materials (chemicals) are routed through the system. But also safety precautions so that there’s a scrubber being added. If there’s leaks of chlorine that, that scrubber would be able to clean that up.”
Earlier this week, the city council signed off on the plans that tout a $1.5 million price tag.
