SPRINGFIELD – Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul is warning the public about potential hurricane Ian donation scams.
It’s okay to ask questions before you donate to relief efforts says Raoul, such as how much of your contribution will go towards the cause.
He recommends paying close attention to the name of the charity, since scam artists try to make them look like legit organizations.
“And exercise caution when giving online. Spam emails and solicitations could be fake charitys that try to take advantage of donors,” said Raoul.
Raoul also advises against paying in cash or giving in to high pressure sales tactics.
