BLOOMINGTON – Local organizations are gearing up to help those in need for the seventh annual Bed Blitz.
The West Bloomington Revitalization Project Tool Library and YouthBuild McLean County are teaming up to build beds for children in need.
“We are able to provide a full bed set and some extras to them (children in need). They get a custom-built frame, a mattress, all the sheets, the pillow, laundry detergent, a quilt, a teddy bear, books, so it’s a whole package that these families get free of charge,” Robert Bosquez, lead chairman of the effort told WJBC’s, Scott Miller. “This year, we’re looking to provide 100 beds again. We always receive way more applications than beds we can provide. As long as we’re still supplying beds, we feel great about that.”
Over the years, the Bed Blitz has provided over 600 beds for children in need in the twin cities.
“We’re going into our seventh year; every fall for the last six years, we’ve put out an application for families here in Bloomington-Normal, who believe it or not, there are students who do not have a bed,” Bosquez added.
The 2022 Bed Blitz will take place Oct. 8 at YouthBuild headquarters at 360 Wylie Drive in Normal.
