BLOOMINGTON – Firefighters say multiple tenants are displaced after a fire broke out in an apartment building Friday evening.
Around 9:22 p.m., firefighters responded to 206 West Locust Street after numerous reports of smoke alarms and smoke coming from a third-floor window.
Crews searched the building for any occupants, and determined everyone exited the building safely.
The fire was under control in about 30 minutes and crews remained on scene to check for any hotspots.
An investigation found a total of three apartments were left uninhabitable: the apartment where the fire began, the adjacent apartment to the west, and the apartment under the apartment where the fire started.
Officials say the apartment building is a three story, 12-unit student apartment building, managed by First Site Apartments.
First Site Apartments maintenance personnel responded to the scene and assisted residents in retrieving personal property and restoring power to the unaffected units within the building.
The company then made arrangements for the displaced students to relocate to a hotel until they could return to their apartments.
No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
