LINCOLN – The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning that goes into effect at midnight until 6 p.m. Thursday as heavy snow and freezing rain are expected across central Illinois.
The winter storm warning includes McLean, Livingston, Woodford, Tazewell and Ford counties. The NWS is calling for mixed precipitation Wednesday night followed by heavy snow on Thursday.
Total snow accumulations of 5 to 7 inches and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch are possible, according to NWS. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph. The heaviest snow accumulation will be late Thursday morning through the afternoon.
Plan on slippery road conditions. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
