BLOOMINGTON – The Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Bloomington is honoring fallen veterans this holiday season.
Members of the community joined veterans Saturday to lay wreaths at the grave sites of those who lost their lives in combat.
In all, they laid more than 800 wreaths, one for each veteran buried there. Cemetery Manager Misty Porter says the evergreen has taken part in this event – known as ‘Wreaths Across America’ for four years.
“I think it’s a great thing to see that many people come,” Misty Porter said. “That’s the biggest crowd we’ve had during ‘Wreaths Across America’. It’s always nice just to see those young kids so that we can continue to honor through the next generation.”
More than three thousand cemeteries around the country are participating in ‘Wreaths Across America’, and other memorial events are set to take place at evergreen in the new year.
