GIBSON CITY – A popular Central Illinois drive-in theater is closed until further notice after Gibson City received historic levels of rain.
Throughout the day on Thursday, parts of the city received at least 10 inches of rain. As a result, the Harvest Moon Twin Drive-in remains closed as the business suffered significant damage.
“We will assess the damage once the water goes down, see what we need to replace and fix to operate again, and post an update on our social media accounts once we have a definite or speculated opening date for the remainder of the season,” the business said in a social media post. “We have lost some expensive equipment and nearly all our food (and) packaging for food in the flooding, and our electrical systems are currently underwater.”
The drive-in said they would alert the public on when and if they need to establish a gofundme.com page to cover the cost of the damage.
“We love our drive-in family and fans and can’t wait to reopen (hopefully in the near future) for more drive-in memories under the stars,” the business said in a social media post.
The drive-in said they would be refunding advance ticket sales for this weekend’s showings that have been canceled.
